Honors and Awards

Congratulations to Elisa Castagnola, assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University, who received a five-year NSF Faculty Early Career Development Award. Elisa was a CNT postdoctoral researcher at San Diego State University in the laboratory of Sam Kassegne.
Claudia Cea was recently appointed as an Assistant Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the Yale School of Engineering & Applied Science. As a CNT graduate student at San Diego State University with Sam Kassegne, Claudia was a winner of a CNT Hackathon.

CNT in the News

UW CNT members Jeffrey Ojemann, Jeffrey Herron and Andrew Ko are leading the efforts to investigate how an implanted device may help stroke patients recover lost function by stimulating their brains to rewire. This work emerged from the CNT testbed on “Co-adaptation for engineering neuroplasticity.” More about this work at KIRO-AM and KUOW.

During the 2025 autumn quarter at the University of Washington, Azadeh Yazdan (CNT faculty member) and Rajesh Rao (CNT co-director) will teach the course Neural Engineering. This course is offered jointly by the UW Departments of Bioengineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering.

Last month, the CNT and UW DO-IT Center held the Neuroscience for Neurodiverse Learners program where neurodiverse high school students learned about neuroscience, neural engineering and neuroethics. The goal was to expose students to the field of neural engineering and provide basic preparation for college studies in STEM subjects and future STEM careers.
