Neuroscience for Neurodiverse Learners provides students an opportunity to develop unique strengths, even through a pandemic
A new program developed by the CNT and UW DO-IT provides high school students with resources and tools needed to be successful in fields related to neuroscience.

HONORS AND AWARDS

• Congratulations to CNT member Eberhard Fetz who was recently named an AAAS Fellow.
• Congratulations to CNT Co-Director Chet Moritz who received a National Institutes of Health research grant. The R01 research award totals $2,392,623 over four years and will fund his project, "Optogenetics to Improve Hand Function after Spinal Cord Injury."
• Congratulations to CNT member Josh Smith and his colleague Nadya Peek who received an NSF award for open source hardware co-bots for laboratory automation.

UPCOMING EVENTS

The CNT and the DO-IT program at the University of Washington are recruiting high school students for the Neuroscience for Neurodiverse Learners project. We are seeking students who identify as neurodiverse and are interested in STEM.
Applications for the summer 2021 CNT Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), Research Experience for Teachers (RET) and Young Scholars Program-REACH (YSP-REACH) are now being accepted.
New Neural Engineering Seminar Series at the University of Washington — a monthly meeting of people who are interested in neural engineering research-related topics
World Wide Theoretical Neuroscience Seminar Series — a weekly digital seminar targeting the theoretical neuroscience community
December 1 and 4: Spinal Cord Plasticity in Motor Control Meeting (virtual meeting)
December 7: UW Graduate Program in Neuroscience Seminar — Dr. Kafui Dzirasa, K. Ranga Rama Krishnan Associate Professor at Duke University Medical Center will present "Mapping emotions: discovering structure in mesoscale electrical brain recordings."
December 9: Society for Neuroscience webinar "Advocating early in your career as a scientist"

CNT Faculty Director at SDSU Sam Kassegne is quoted in this SDSU News piece, which notes that COVID-19 awareness and understanding among the public has increased, while skepticism has declined.

Women in Neuroscience Panel Discussion provides a space to talk about real-world challenges faced by female scientists and engineers
The panel gave CNT students, post-doctoral researchers, faculty and staff an opportunity to learn from the life experiences of accomplished women who are established in neuroscience-related careers.
